Lever Action Shock Absorbers
DELCO Lever action type shock absorbers were used on most general Motors cars such Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac from 1937-1955.
Pistons in these shocks are connected to a shaft, one end of an arm (or a pair of arms) is attached to the shaft and the other end is connected to a shock linkage or upper control arm at the wheel knuckle. Spring oscilation causes movement the arm end, which on its other end induces rotary movement of the shaft, causing pistons to move and force the fluid through the valve thereby creating a dampening in the front or rear suspension system. This is compared to modern "direct action" tubular shocks where piston and spring are attached to a single rod
